This recipe dresses up hearty beef with some of our favorite Thai flavors, including a spicy-sweet sauce, fresh herbs, and crispy shallot, a traditional Thai garnish. Ditch the takeaway and whip up this Chinese flash-fried steak with a sweet gingery sauce and red peppers.

  1. Prepare 1-1/2 lb Serloin Steak
  2. Take 1 tsp Crushed Garlic
  3. Prepare 1/2 tsp crushed ginger
  4. Take 1 Stalks green spring onion chopped
  5. Get 1 small onion
  6. Take 1 tbls Hoisin sauce
  7. Prepare 3/4 cup Honey
  8. Take 1 tbls roasted sesame seeds
  9. Make ready 1 tbls roasted sesame seeds oil
  10. Prepare 1/2 tbls rice wine vinegar
  11. Get 1 tbls veg oil

These crispy, sticky, flavor-pumpin' beef pieces are first fried to a golden crispy perfection, then coated in a sweet and salty sauce to get it all soaked into the beef. Today we are making a spicy snack from Sichuan. We call it Leng Chi Niu Rou(冷吃牛肉). It is crispy beef fried in spicy, flavorful chili oil.

Instructions to make Crispy sweet beef:
  1. Slice the steak into 1 cm wide strips and place it in a bowl. (If your steak is more than 1 cm thick, cut the strips in half again length-wise)
  2. In a food processor, blitz the onion, garlic and ginger until it is a paste. (If you do not have a food processor, you can grate them or chop it very finely by hand, just make sure the ginger bits are very tiny)
  3. Add the marinade and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce to the beef and mix well and marinade it in the fridge for 1 hour (or 20-30 minutes in room temperature)
  4. After 10 minutes, repeat the same process and dust 1/2 cup of corn starch on the beef again to lightly re-coat the beef.
  5. Using a heavy bottom pot (or wok) set the temperature of the oil to 375F (191C) (or medium heat) and add at least 1 inch of oil and wait for it to get hot.
  6. Using your fingers separate the beef if they are clumped together and deep fry it in the oil in small batches (make sure the oil is hot but not smoking – to test if the oil is hot enough, add 1 small piece of beef first and see if it instantly sizzles)
  7. Deep fry the beef for 1-2 minutes, and remove it from the pot onto a plate with paper towel or newspaper to sop up some of the oil
  8. Once all the beef has been cooked once (first fry), add all of it back in for the second deep fry for 1 more minute.
  9. Add to a serving dish and sprinkle spring onion over the Top. Also the sesame seeds

We call it Leng Chi Niu Rou(冷吃牛肉). It is crispy beef fried in spicy, flavorful chili oil.
